Sony GRV550 Max RAM???

Hello All,

Being the owner of a venerable Sony PCG GRV550 laptop (BIOS:R0203B1) I
am frequently intrigued by the idea of bumping the memory up to 1GB,
the Intel 845MP-MZ Chipset seems to support it and rumors persist
that it is possible, but my own attempts have failed using two Simple
Tech 512GB DDR PC3200/2700/2100 SoDIMMs.

But now I'm wondering if maybe the number of little RAM packs must be
specific for it to work? Or maybe single sided versus double sided
banks? Just fishing for an answer here ...

Is there anyone out there who has actually got 1GB memory installed on
their GRV550?

So ... how the heck did you do it??

Thanks,

sully

A quick google search says the max is 512MB consisting of two banks of 256MB

If there is such a thing as double sided 512mb sodimms it would probably do
the trick.  I've overcome similar problems on desktops where both the
manufacturer and crucial.com state that the max memory is 256mb (2 128mb
sticks) yet when I installed 2 double sided 256mb sticks the 512 worked just
fine.  Can't say for sure whether it would work or not in your case.

You are likely on the right track.  While I am not familiar with this
unit, it is often the case that attempts to use larger size memory
modules sink or swim based on the internal architecture of the modules,
or even of the chips on the modules.

I'd check the Crucial web site or other sites that have model specific
information.
